Mil-SPEC is a set of standards designed to test durability, ruggedness and reliability. These tests cover extreme environmental variables including temperature, pressure, dust, humidity and vibration testing.
Although ThinkPads have always been known for their robustness, they were not specifically designed to only meet the Mil-SPEC 810H standard. Meeting the standard is just the start of ThinkPad's durability, robustness and reliability. Selected ThinkPad models, including all X1, P, X, T, & L Series, have successfully passed the following tests:
HUMIDITY
91 - 98%
Subjected to 91-98% humidity at 30°C to 60°C
VIBRATION
MULTIPLE TESTS
Tested while running and turned off
SOLAR RADIATION
7 x 24 HOURS
Seven 24-hr. cycles of simulated UV radiation
LOW PRESSURE (ALTITUDE)
15,000ft
Tests for operations at 15,000 feet
TEMPERATURE SHOCK (EXTREME TEMPERATURE)
-25-60°C over 3 cycles of 2 hr. duration
MECHANICAL SHOCK
x18 TIMES
High acceleration and repeated shock pulses over 18 times
SAND & DUST TEST
x6 HOUR CYCLES
140 mesh silica dust for 6 hr. cycles and silica sand for 90 min. cycles
SHIPBOARD VIBRATION
4-33HZ for 2 hrs.
HIGH TEMPERATURE
Storage: 63°C for 24 hrs.
Operation: 43°C for 8 hrs.
LOW TEMPERATURE
Storage: -25°C for 24 hrs.
Operation: -21°C for 8 hrs.
EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERE
Fuel vapor environment
FREEZE/THAW
From -10°C to 25°C
